Employability in higher education: a review of key stakeholders' perspectives

Purpose Employability is a key concept in higher education. Graduate employment rate often used to assess the quality of university provision, despite that employability and are two different concepts. This paper will increase understandings graduate through interpreting its meaning whose responsibility for from perspectives four stakeholders: education institutions, students, government employers. Design/methodology/approach There stages this literature review which was undertaken across bibliographic databases. The first stage builds conceptual understanding employability, relating definition how can be achieved enhanced perspective stakeholders. A structured search employing Boolean searches conducted using range terms associated with second round drew on documentary analysis official statements, declarations, documents, reports position papers issued by stakeholders UK, available online. Findings It reveals has been transferred UK clear evidence it needs shared all effective. In addition, there gap between employers' expectation government's agenda. Originality/value article highlights solely statistics as indicator encourage practice putting above knowledge creation development academic disciplines, consequence become increasingly vocation driven.
